Western Spotted Cucumber Beetle

Diabrotica undecimpunctata was spotted feeding at the edge of the Root River in SE Minnesota in early August. This species is also known, in its larval form, as the Southern Corn Rootworm. My guess, given the native plant species it was observed feeding upon, this little guy would test low on the Carbon-13 isotope.

We may be CORN PEOPLE, sure, but I think we had better just go ahead and call this guy the Western Spotted Cucumber Beetle, as did Linnaeus
