Gray Whale

This creature is 45 ft in length and 5 ft in girth. When full of Ghost Shrimp (its favorite food in Puget Sound) it can weigh almost 40 tons, or about 1 ton per foot of length. This particular animal, #383, has been observed in the Sound every year since the early 1990's. Gray Whales winter near the Baja in Mexico and migrate with their calves to Alaska each spring. Puget Sound is a 're-fueling' station along the way.
