Fall Fungi

This is a large fungus that grows on the side of trees. I do not know Genus species for it but will need to research the subject. It is currently 'blooming' due to the cool wet weather. It is adding new growth to the outside margin. My guess is that it extends its edges several times each year - when conditions are just right. Edible?
