A VERY large snapping turtle was busy burying eggs by the side of Telemark Road this week.

The Snapper is the largest turtle in most of its range. It is nearly always in water, hiding in the muck in shallows, under stumps in deep pools, or in old muskrat lodges. Females can be seen on land in June moving to sunny nesting spots. Snappers have huge appetites. They eat insects, fish, frogs, snakes, birds, muskrats, and many kinds of plants.
